Full Spectrum Features offers a 3-month internship in independent film producing. This is an unpaid internship, but current students can earn academic credit through select local Chicago universities and colleges (see below). Applicants should have a strong interest in the business and administration of independent filmmaking. The ideal candidate will be organized, prompt, professional, and eager to learn, and have strong writing and communication skills.
Note: This is not a production internship; there will be only limited opportunities to work on set.
Producing interns will have the opportunity to learn the following skills, relevant for jobs in independent film producing, production management, and directing:
- Research and development
- Grant writing
- Communicating with press/media
- Production planning and scheduling
- Real-world problem solving skills (on and off set)
- Location scouting and locations management
- Hiring crew and negotiations
- Independent filmmaking contracts and legal matters
Exhibition and distribution
Interns will be assigned to at least one Full Spectrum Features project, and will work under the supervision of Producer Eugene Park or Program Director Dane Haiken. Specific work assignments will be catered towards the intern's interests and skills when possible.
"Working at FSF has been an eye-opening experience. I've always wanted to work in a nonprofit... but I never realized how much hard work goes into the behind the scenes. Everyone I've met here has all been extremely passionate and amazing... Every grand show has a small beginning, and working here has helped me learn more about what I want for my future." - Nadine Abdelrahim, former intern
"Full Spectrum Features is truly on the cutting edge of filmmaking. Not because they're obsessed with flashy gimmicks and expensive equipment, but because they're laser focused on showcasing the talent and stories of communities that are routinely dismissed elsewhere. In this industry, that truly is a revolutionary act, so if you want to be sure that your time spent making movies matters, do it at Full Spectrum Features."
- Anthony Martinez, former intern
