Chicago Independent producers lab - FAQs

+ How many people are selected for the lab?

Between three and five participants will be accepted.

+ Can I submit multiple projects?

Eligible applicants may submit up to two projects.

+ Can I submit a short film, a pilot, or a non-fiction project?

The lab is designed for narrative feature films only.

+ If I am selected, can my director attend the workshops?

The applicant (lead producer) must attend all workshops. Screenwriters are strongly encouraged to attend. Participants may invite one additional team member (director and/or other producers) to accompany them for some or all of the time.

+ I plan to produce and direct my film. Can I apply?

Applicants must be a lead producer of a narrative feature film and cannot be the director (attached directors are welcome to attend alongside their producer). The focus of this lab is to foster film-as-business in Chicago and to support those pursuing careers as producers (so directors don’t have to!).

+ I don’t live in Chicago but I can film my project there. Can I still apply?

Unfortunately, no. The lab is intended to support producers who are committed to the creative and economic vitality of Chicago.

+ How do I know if me or my project are sufficiently aligned with Full Spectrum’s mission?

All are welcome to apply. We believe in the power of narrative storytelling to affect positive change and to address all manner of inequity. If that sounds like you or your project, we encourage you to apply.

+ What role do Program Advisors play?

Program Advisors provide high-level guidance to the program. *Their affiliation with the program does not constitute an official endorsement from or partnership with the advisors’ respective employers.

+ How much does it cost to apply?

No cost. The program is free to apply.
