TINY BONES (IN DEVELOPMENT)

Director: Tracy Pitts
Producer: Eugene Sun Park
Genre: Drama, Feature

SYNOPSIS

Sam, a six-year-old girl adopted from China, navigates with uncertainty her home, now filled with a sick mom and an elusive dad. Her parents, Barbara and Jerry, struggle to both contain the will of their little girl to participate in mom’s recovery, and sustain the careful attention needed for her uncertain health.

Sent away to live with her Uncle Marvin on his derelict farm, Sam explores her unanswered questions among a broader canvas, and finds that life on a farm is not so different from the home she misses. Uncle Marvin, a hoarder in every sense, tries to balance the responsibility of taking care of his niece, and his open wounds after losing a child of his own. Together, they pursue small truths and large unknowns about family and their future.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Tiny Bones is a big small story about the language of the "in between" -- in between questions, in between families, in between life and death. The story is told through the perspective of Sam, a six-year-old girl, as her mundane world is made strange after her mother becomes gravely ill, and her adoptive parents send her to stay with an uncle indefinitely. Every detail holds the potential to unlock the answers she seeks in this confusing time, with a family that is changing before her eyes.
