CHICAGO CINEMA EXCHANGE: Mexico City
THE CHICAGO CINEMA EXCHANGE BETWEEN CHICAGO AND MEXICO CITY FILMMAKERS EXPLORes THE THEME OF DISPLACEMENT FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER.
The Chicago Cinema Exchange: Mexico City was a series of virtual screening events highlighting works from Mexico City and Chicago filmmakers.
The virtual events took place from June 23 to July 9, 2020 presented in free, week-long, on-demand film programs, select scheduled live stream screenings, and virtual Q&As with featured filmmakers in Mexico City and Chicago. Films and post-screening conversations reflected on the theme of displacement.
Displacement can involve both physical and psychological dislocation. While there can be negative connotations around the concept of displacement, it can also be a route to fresh new opportunities – approached with excitement, ambition, and hope for a better future. Through this series of films, we explore the nuances of displacement and its relationship to geography and self.
